I’ve always loved American Girl Dolls and their historical books. I’ve even collected them for a while but the clothing is expensive. You can save a bunch of money by learning how to make American Girl Doll clothes yourself with your sewing machine. I’ve found some easy patterns to follow and made this amazing Fall Snoopy Dress for my Kit Doll.
How To Make American Girl Doll Clothes
Sewing for American Girl Dolls or any 18″ doll can be super fun for you girls to sew up themselves with a little help from mom of course. I made this cute fall dress and I think it turned out amazing!
I think the fabric is super cute! Snoopy playing in the leaves is perfect for fall and Thanksgiving dinner. I also added a cute ribbon bow around the waist with a cute little button in the middle. I just added a snap on the back side for easy removal.
I took my Kit doll outside for a photo shoot and the pictures turned out really nicely with the Fall leaves in the picture.
Sewing DIY American Girl Doll Fall Dress
If you want to learn how to sew American Girl Doll clothes the best place to start is with a pattern. I found this Simplicity Pattern 8039 just for 18″ dolls. It was easy to make and I picked the Snoopy Falling Leaves Fabric, half yard was plenty of fabric for this project.
Just lay out the pieces, pin patterns to fabric then cut out the pieces following the lines of the pattern.
For the front you are suppose to put this on the fold. But I wanted Snoopy to be in the center so I made my own pattern piece with copy paper and just cut it out with my paper scissors by folding the copy paper and tracing around, then laying it out flat where I wanted my front of the fabric to be.
I tried it on Kit to see how it would look and I loved how it turned out! Super cute!
I just love how this dress turned out for my Kit Doll she’ll be the talk at the Thanksgiving table this year in her wonderful Snoopy Fall Dress. These are simple to make and they finish up really nice. If you have a daughter or Grand Daughter, that loves American Girl Dolls. Then you might want to make her one of these cute dresses this year.
